The economically
recoverable wave power in the United Kingdom has been estimated to be 10,000
megawatts.
Anaconda when fully developed can probably be made for about £2 million per megawatt out. This gives us a potential market of 20 billion pounds in the UK alone. There are other good sites in Europe, Africa, Australia and the Pacific coast of north America, not to speak of isolated island communities all over the world. More expensive wave power machines are already being sold commercially.
In December 2006 the Carbon Trust launched their Marine Energy Accelerator programme to speed up the innovation in wave and tidal energy. We applied and independent consultants appointed by the CT gave Anaconda their full approval. With their most favourable assumptions, their estimated cost of energy came to 6.6p per kWh, much lower that all rival systems. With this encouragement, the Carbon Trust have decided to support the development ...... we are still discussing the details, but the CT's chief executive Tom Delay announced his support for Anaconda in a speech to the Labour party conference.
We are working with Avon Fabrications LLP, who have extensive experience of unusual rubber components, to develop and manufacture the system.
The Anaconda analytical theory (1.3 MB) has been confirmed by two independent time domain simulations.
Professors Chaplin and Hearn of Southampton University have been awarded a substantial three year grant by the EPSRC to develop the theory of Anaconda and to test it experimentally. A video of their tests appears on our HOME page.
